Our Services

Hearing Tests

Adults / Children 4+ / Pensioners & Veterans / Work Cover

At Hearingworks, Kew we perform full diagnostic hearing tests. These hearing tests take approximately one hour to complete.

Pensioners and Veterans are eligible for fully subsidised hearing tests.

Full hearing tests are necessary to determine the cause and severity of your hearing loss. Referral to a doctor may be necessary if, for example, there is middle ear fluid, vertigo, asymmetrical hearing loss or unilateral tinnitus.

If you have a hearing loss, hearing tests help us to design an aural rehabilitation program to help you to achieve your hearing and communication goals.

Call Hearingworks, Kew today on 03 9817 7738, or visit us at our clinic at 91 Cotham Rd, Cotham Village, Kew, to book a hearing test appointment.

Ear Wax Removal

Curettage & Micro-suction

At Hearingworks, Kew we can gently and safely remove ear wax from your ear canal, using curettage and micro-suction, without the discomfort sometimes associated with syringing the ears with water. A referral from a doctor is not necessary for wax removal.

It is normal for your body to produce ear wax. Ear wax has a protective function. It assists in cleaning the ears by trapping dirt, germs, bacteria and any other foreign bodies entering the ear canal, such as insects.

Wax removal is generally only necessary if there is impacted wax in the ear canal. Sometimes we remove ear wax from the ears of hearing aid wearers as a means of preventing feedback (whistling) from the hearing aids and to stop wax from blocking the sound bore of the hearing aids.

5 important reasons not to insert cotton tips into the ears:

  1. You may scratch the delicate skin of your ear canal with the cotton tip, causing it to bleed and making the ear canal vulnerable to infection.
  2. You may push ear wax deeper into the ear canal where it is not supposed to be, introducing fungus, bacteria and viruses from the outer ear into the inner ear, increasing the risk of infection.
  3. You may push the ear wax so deep into the ear canal that you puncture the ear drum and damage the small bones attached to the ear drum.
  4. You may cause the ear wax to form a plug in the ear canal, blocking the ear canal entirely, causing a temporary hearing loss.
  5. You may make it more difficult to have your ear wax removed by a professional.

Call Hearingworks, Kew today on 03 9817 7738, or visit us at our clinic at 91 Cotham Rd, Cotham Village, Kew, to book a wax removal appointment.
